Brixton House and PlayWell Productions have announced the full cast for the world premiere of Black Power Desk, a bold new Black British musical running from 1 to 28 September as part of Brixton House’s Uprising Festival.

Written by Urielle Klein-Mekongo in collaboration with Rapperturg and Black British Theatre Award winner Gerel Falconer, and directed by Gbolahan Obisesan, Black Power Desk blends original live music with a powerful story of resistance and sisterhood. The musical draws inspiration from the Mangrove Nine and the British Black Power movement, set against the vibrant backdrop of 1970s London and the rise of sound system culture.

The show stars Rochelle Rose and Veronica Carabai as sisters Celia and Dina, joined by Alexander Bellinfantie, Tomos Eames, Gerel Falconer, Fahad Shaft, Chanté Faucher, Alan Drake and Casey Bird. With a live band performing a score infused with RnB, Reggae, Soul and Ska, the production promises to be one of Brixton House’s most ambitious to date.

Following its run in London, the show will tour to major venues including Warwick Arts Centre, The Lowry and Birmingham Hippodrome. It forms part of the Uprising Festival, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1985 Brixton Uprising.

Black Power Desk is supported by a distinguished creative team including composer Renell Shaw, dramaturg Gail Babb, and designers Natalie Pryce, Jessica Cabassa, Prema Mehta and Tony Gayle.

Tickets start from £16, with a Pay What You Feel preview on 1 September.
